For her second VF Live set, Ariane V dives into her boyfriend’s mum’s collection of records from the ’80s.

“A few weeks ago my boyfriend’s mum, Lisa Bishop, showed me her record collection which is full of amazing ’80s stuff. Since she doesn’t DJ, I thought I’d pick out a few records that I liked the most and turn them into a mix.

“So here’s ‘Lisa’s Mix’, full of classic disco (including a Francois K remix), boogie, some Herbie Hancock and Tom Tom Club as well.”

Sound artist Peter Adjaye returns for his sixth set, diving into his collection of post-colonial African records.

“This is my return to ever growing research into post-colonial independence music of Africa,” says Adjaye. “This set really reaches all four corners and these musicians stand tall in the musical history of the mighty continent: all the way east to west to south — from Mali, Ethiopia, South Africa, Ghana to Burkina Faso.”

“For my latest VF Live set, I wanted to share some of the disco tracks that I’ve had on heavy rotation recently.

Disco is the staple of my collection due to my Dad being a disco DJ in the 1970s. I inherited his collection as a teenager. It would have been over 2000, but my mum sold the majority whilst I was a school one day! I’ve been building it back up ever since.”

Presenter and producer Sarah Evan’s returns to Soul Proprietors – a specialist record shop in Brixton, London – for her latest show.

“I’m using two Technics 1210s and a Vestax PMC 05pro mixer, with a 3.5mm stereo jack plug to 2 RCA Phono Plugs running from the mixer output into my 2004 MacBook and recording line in on QuickTime. The microphone is a late ’60s/’70s RESLOSOUND LTD Ribbon microphone 30/50 ohms (made in England).

Each set so far has been comprised of new and old records that I’ve acquired from over a decade. My collection consists of funk, disco, jazz, house, highlife, afrobeat, techno, electro, psychedelic and hip-hop.”
