Aidas Audio Gala Gold LE MC Phono Cartridge

When it comes to turntables, I have to admit that my top MC reference remains the Aidas Mammoth Gold. It is the benchmark by which I compare all comparable MC cartridges. It lacks nothing I can hear and is listenable to the maximum. The Gala Gold LE is their limited-edition cartridge in honor of the... Read More »

New Album Releases Project 2020-7-25

I get several messages and missive folks with strongly worded suggestions and rants, so this week I open the mailbag and address some of them.

 1. I do not earn any money off of NARP. There are no affiliate links to Amazon or any other site unless I post a separate link in a separate post on behalf of friends of mine who are musicians/performers.
 2. I do not post links to music on streaming services because I am first and foremost a “lazy SOB’ and secondly, anyone making use of this list should be well equipped to search for music on their own.
 3. I do not and have not ever enabled commenting as NARP was/is designed as a discovery/research tool, nothing more, nothing less. There are enough trolling and insidious comments in other online audio/music group, and I saw no need to foster any more of that.
 4. Besides NARP on Dagogo and Facebook, I am also a moderator of the Roon Enthusiast Group and spend a fair amount of time responding to and troubleshooting issues for members.
 5. Apart from Facebook I write for Dagogo as a reviewer and provide commentary as an industry analyst. (David is a Senior Reviewer. -Pub.)

Next week I’ll dive into various systems and gear I have heard to listen to all that music that comes my way.

Now on to the music. Unlike last week there was far more to be heard and sampled. One good thing to come out of this pandemic is more time to listen to music, which in some circles is ironic. Several online audiophiles, familiar to me bemoan the lockdown because they cannot get out of the house much if at all, yet these very same individuals, pre-pandemic, complained bitterly about not being home enough to listen to their system. #bogglesthemind.

Pianist/Composer/Arranger Michael Weiss’s Long Soul Journey to Vinyl

Suave, swinging and exuberant, Michael Weiss’s self-produced Soul Journey sounds something like a big band playing on a Blue Note Records date, but it’s really a small ensemble making like a big one thanks to Weiss’s deft, harmonically-rich, rhythmically neck-snapping arrangements and free-spirited yet tightly drawn, well-meshed performances by the three man veteran horn section of saxophonist Steve Wilson, trumpet and flugelhorn player Ryan Kisor and trombonist Steve Davis.
